in boston. here in washington, washington is preparing for a funeral procession expected to attract crowds lining the streets. good evening. i'm sitting in for doreen. i'm jim vance. we begin team coverage in boston, massachusetts. steve handelsman has our report. >> reporter: a celebration of senator edward kennedy's life and work and character. a gathering of big-name democrats and the kennedy clan that had been led till this week by uncle teddy. nephew joe kennedy -- >> he came back after so much tragedy. because of that heart, because of that drive and that determination. >> reporter: senator chris dodd on kennedy's place among his famous brothers. >> john fitzgerald kennedy inspired our america. robert kennedy challenged our america. and our teddy, changed america.

cemetery, ted kennedy will be buried next to his brothers. i'm steve handel san, mbs news, boston. >> folks in the nation's capital will get a chance to see senator kennedy's casket after a stop at the u.s. capitol. the funeral procession will go down the mall before it enters the cemetery. craig melvin continues our team coverage in arlington tonight. craig. >> as steve mentioned ted kennedy's final resting place will be here at arlington national. he will be buried next to his two iconic brothers not far from the eternal flame that burns for jfk. the ceremony here tomorrow will be private. but, the public will have one final chance to pay their respects to senator ted kennedy as the funeral procession makes its way through the capitol. ryan spent a few months working in boston last summer. but he plans to line the procession route saturday afternoon. >> you can tell the significance that senator kennedy had over the states. almost important to be here. >> mike lives in boston.

how much rain, about half an hour. mclean. one, two inches of rain before things settle down later on tonight. danny still no big threat to us. but i will tell you what the latest is on it when i join you. >> thank you, bob. >> frightening ordeal came to a happy ending in prince george's county when fire fighters pulled a big dog out of a well. it is a call fire fighters do not train for. but they were happy to help. as the well begin to fill with rain water. jackie benson has our report. >> after spending hours barking and whimpering at the bottom of a well, cujo, all 120 pounds of him was raised to the surface in the arms of prince george's county fire fighter travis lambert. he noted it was a good thing that cujo is a gentle giant. it's not something we train for every day. glad he was friendly. >> daniel ellis was overjoyed to

be reunited with the 3 year old. the dog had an abrasion over one eye but was otherwise remarkably uninjured after his fall of some 30 feet. >> 12:00 today they have been, yes, that's my son, cujo. >> doing a fine job. keeping it. >> reporter: the urgent call came around 1:00 p.m. from the home on glen drive in suitland. first responders found an unusual situation. the long, unused well located directly below a deck that cujo had apparently crawled under. a cave-in unit reap quested. fire fighters had to saw through pressure treated boards to lower an air supply to the trapped dog. and the water was rising. >> the call came in when weep were having a terrible storm. pouring down rain. there was water pring into this hole. the water was filling up the hole around the dog. >> just after 5:00, fire fighters managed to rig a harness to fit the dog. and travis lambert descended to

police arrested a woman in the murder of a pizza shop owner. the owner was found beaten and cut in his pizza mart store in northeast d.c. back on august 18th. this afternoon, detectives arrested 26-year-old shanika robinson of capital heights, maryland. investigators have not released any motive and it's still not clear if the two knew each other. an argument in a driveway led to a terrible, awful act of retaliation against a tiny family pet. this occurred in june. the couple av beards,n hri dyis iwave awa on lle ph.ca phone call h aimgsk hinim hims to leavim and he wouldn't. police say beards later went back to the home, stole their year and a half old teacup chihuahua, zoe from the front yard and while crossing the bridge, police say beards threw the dog off the bridge.

intensity. nonetheless. folks around gainesville, centerville, seeing moderate showers coming in around shan tilly. that will move into montgomery county. there have been localized heavy rains. localized flooding. all of this, with time. tends to move to the north. it's not a big, big area. but there is some more. this is the future scan. as we go through the night time hours. so, even tomorrow morning. i think we may be seeing some lingering rainshowers. meanwhile, ocean city. another, not bad day there. 79 degrees. here is danny. it is really disorganized. 265 miles. south of cape hatteras. main circulation -- is there. and that's where it will move well off the coast. please avoid the areas with the strongest winds. so it now looks like even on, on to sunday it will probably miss a lot of cape cod. and about all that it will be doing if you are thinking heading towards the beaches will bring in surf. 2 to 4 foot waves. nothing, anything like bill.

by tomorrow, there is danny. heading up toward eastern new england. behind it. a little weak weather front. may give us a chance for showers. but i think as we get into sunday. probably seeing a fair amount of nshine now. not a bad weekend the a chance for a few showers tomorrow morning. then, some breaks. in the cloud. as our winds turn a little more into the west. no impact here from danny at all. still cannot rule out completely. a few showers. temperatures into the low to mid 80s tomorrow afternoon. then the partly sunny day sunday. i think the better of the two days will begin to dry out. then in back of it. some nice low humidity, air coming in. sort of a weather front hanging around off the coast. can't rule out completely any showers. but temperatures, for a change. below average. and some mornings. maybe into the high 50s to low 60s. next week. head into fall as we head towards september. >> that would be nice. >> thanks, bob. coming up tonight. mega millions, living up to its
